By the Numbers

Playing tag with students after school, teaching 3rd-8th graders how to manage their asthma, explaining reproductive and sexual health to teenagers, watching children light up when they eat a strange, new vegetable for the first time--it is all part of the average day for Chicago Health Corps (CHC) members and the full extent of our service is impossible to quantify. Yet, we’ve given it our best shot!  The second quarter performance measures (a document summarizing the impact that members have had in the communities they serve) have just been released and from September through February, the CHC members met and surpassed many of the goals that were set for them.  In fact, we made some of our goals look pretty wimpy. It may be time to raise the bar!
·  CHC Members educated 3,686 community residents in health workshops (goal: 2,000).
·  678 youth participated in health education classes (goal: 300), and 38 youth participated in physical fitness activities lead by CHCers.
·  Members facilitated  health screenings, testings, and immunizations for 2,101 community participants (goal: 500) and recruited 41 new non-member volunteers (goal: 30).
·  Supporting the CHC mission to provide access to care in underserved communities in Chicago, CHC members assisted 1,079 uninsured, economically disadvantaged, or medically underserved clients by giving them information on health insurance, health care access and health benefits programs (goal: 250).  516 of these clients who received information actually enrolled in the program, 309 of which actually utilized preventative and primary health care services and programs.

These reports show that the Chicago Health Corps is going above and beyond to “get things done” in the communities they serve!
